Brief on STED Capacity enhancement training in Zanzibar

The SIFA-Skills Anticipation Component conducted training for thirty five (35) labour market and skills development stakeholders from five  AU member states on application of the Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification (STED) methodology

Participants from Eswatini, Ghana, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe convened in Zanzibar to undergo capacity building on the STED approach a sector-based methodology for identifying current and future skill needs that should guide ensure labour market responsive skills development needed to aid countries to build more resilient productive and competitive sectors in the context of global open markets. All participants to the training are serving members of the Tripartite-plus National Task Teams on strengthening skill anticipation systems in their respective Countries.

One of the participants, Dr. Denis Murekachiro, Director of Higher Education Programs, in Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Innovation and Technology was optimistic about the positive impact that effective skills anticipation could play in his country and this to say, 

 “The STED methodology aligns with Zimbabwe’s development plans to strengthening human capital development and heritage-based education 5.0. The implementation of STED in Zimbabwe will assist in developing TVET policies for anticipation of future skills needs and in alignment of curriculum to meet the dictates of Heritage based Education 5.0.”
