TVET Country profiles for 55 Member States will be collated and published on the African Skills Portal for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship (ASPYEE). There are several challenges related to data availability and collection that have resulted in inconsistent and outdated information pertaining to several African countries.
Institution: Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator and the National Business Initiative (NBI)
Based on the high attendance and active participation at a recent webinar on practical apprenticeship tools in Africa, this is an area that warrants a lot more deliberation – not least for its potential to increase the employability prospects of young people and the productivity and profits of businesses, which together will drive growth across the continent.
1. Background
Over the past few months, AUDA-NEPAD through the Skills Initiative for Africa supported by GIZ and our consulting team GFA-FAKT have been working on an assessment of the Creative Industry as a driver for Jobs in Nigeria, a deep dive from the world bank report : Orange Economy a driver of jobs for youths. We have embarked on this journey and have some tools and content to share with you all.
Changing negative perceptions of TVET required the key ingredients of creativity and flexibility in a campaign in Botswana to make vocational training “cool”. This was the theme of a national communication campaign begun in 2019 and funded by the European Union. The project was implemented by Young Africa Botswana, a local NGO.
