Advancing Responsible AI Governance for Africa's Socio-Economic Development

Artificial Intelligence For Development advances responsible AI governance, focusing on embedding ethical AI practices within four critical sectors: Health, gender and youth, social protection and welfare, and education and skills development systems. By developing sector-specific AI guidelines, enhancing data governance frameworks, and building policy advocacy coalitions, AI4D ensures that Africa’s AI ecosystems evolve inclusively, ethically, and in alignment with socio-economic development priorities.

Objectives

AI4D aims to:

Implement and domesticate the AU Data Governance Framework in 4 sectors of interest.

Develop and disseminate Sector-Specific AI Guidelines for pivotal sectors, using a Compendium of AI Policies as a foundational tool.

Establish and support networks of AI policy advocates to ensure the sustainability and enforcement of AI governance.

Organise training sessions and public awareness campaigns to bolster understanding and engagement with AI policies based on the compendium's guidelines.
