Skills for Africa’s Economic Growth.

The African Union is pleased to invite you to participate in the West Africa Regional Africa Creates Jobs (ACJ) virtual workshop to be held on August 26th & 27th, 2021.In preparation for the continental event, Africa Creates Jobs, in November 2021 which will provide a dialogue platform for key African stakeholders to discuss and develop continental responses to youth employment and skills promotion; the AUC and the AUDA-NEPAD through SIFA (Skills Initiative for Africa) are organizing five regional online workshops.

The 2021 theme for Africa Creates Jobs is Skills for Africa’s Economic Growth. The ACJ regional online workshops are spaces for multiple stakeholders to discuss region-specific strategies to scale-up efforts for job creation, skills development and small enterprise development for African youth. Your work and achievements have enabled the African Union and its partners to identify you as a quality resource person for this discussion.

We will be very honoured if you would take time out of your busy schedule to participate in this extremely important workshop. You will be contributing to developing a strategy for skills development in your region and helping the African Union to develop solutions to the challenge of African youth employment. The African Continent must make an economic recovery post the Covid-19 pandemic, while harnessing the prospects for expanded industrialization, markets and trade opportunities to spur growth and meet the demand for over 20 million jobs per year.

As West Africa adjusts to this new economy, key questions arise:

• What are the key sectors of the economy that can ensure growth and create jobs?

• What are the skills needed to drive growth and competitiveness in these sectors?

• What are the linkages, policies and practices needed to create the synergy among public and private stakeholders to seize these opportunities?

• What are the key lessons from the experience of the East African Community in facilitating economic growth and job creation?

The discussion in these regional workshops will be centered on the above questions and outcomes used to develop key recommendations to present to African policy-makers at the continental event in November 2021. Due to the Covid-19 crisis the workshop will be held virtually. We will use the Zoom platform. This application can be downloaded free of charge on this website: www.zoom.us. You will need a stable internet connection. To participate, you will need to reserve the time slots from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. on August 26th and 27th, 2021.

With the additional challenge of coordinating everyone’s availability virtually, we would be most grateful to have confirmation of your participation no later than August 17, 2021.
