Framework

The document offers a pragmatic collaboration framework between Jua kali and TVET sector stakeholders.

The Government of Kenya has prioritized implementation of the ‘Big Four Agenda’ in the development period between 2018-2022. The role of the TVET subsector in creating jobs under this agenda is premised on a strong linkage of TVET programs to the informal Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

In line with President Uhuru Kenyatta's Madaraka Day's directive on recognition of prior learning of Jua kali artisan through Kenya National Qualifications Authority-KNQA; the Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Associations supported by the Skills Initiative For Africa and Viffa Consult developed a broad framework of Engagement between the Jua Kali MSMEs and Stakeholders in the TVET Sub-sector that encapsulates  issues such as fit for purpose curriculum, attachment and employment of TVET students to Jua Kali and utilization of centers of excellence with TVET institutions (former polytechnics) among others.
