The Global Apprenticeship Network Namibia (CAN Namibia) had an exhibition stall at the WorldSkills Africa (WSAS20220) event in Swakopmund Namibia from 28-31 March 2022. (WSAS2022) is a three-tier event hosted by WorldSkills Namibia in partnership with WorldSkills International and the African Union. It included a Skills Competition, a Careers Exhibition, and a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Conference.


The theme for the event was: "Promoting Skills Development in the 21st Century for Sustainable Economic Growth and African Ownership". It offered an excellent engagement platform for policymakers, industry, and TVET experts. Local, regional and international VET experts attended the event to engage conferencegoers through topical presentations as per the themes.

The overarching purpose of presentations was to generate knowledge, share experiences, benchmark, and innovation in the TVET fields. CAN Namibia engaged over 200 attendies at the event on a daily basis. The themes for the event were: Effective TVET systems, TVET Funding Models, Technology and TVET and Gender and social inclusion in TVET.


The event shed some light on the importance of skills development and why apprenticeships are pivotal in job creation and why they help sharpen the skills of the youth and making them employable and self sustaining. The event saw people from Africa showcase their skills in the culinary, motor vehicle, beauty, sciences, robotics an welding fields.

WorldSkills Africa was praised for exhibiting the potential of African youth and the skills they possess, skills that were deemed important for the development and upliftment of the African continent.
